Over the last few weeks, I've been listening to some of the first few episodes of current well-known podcasts. I returned to their beginning as a reminder not to compare my beginning to someone's middle; everything is a collection of the smallest parts, all energetic atoms.  One of the episodes featured social-justice badass Adrienne Maree Brown (AMB), and she talked about small never-ending patterns called fractals. In a very nerdy way, it was wicked cool, as they say in Boston. She indirectly described our Pause Breathe Reflect ripples - many small ripples lead to big waves of change.  "How we...

Maybe it's the paperboy in me, but I love a decorative mailbox. It tells me something about who lives there and usually brings a ripple of good vibes. I can't recall ever seeing a skull and crossbones mailbox. When I was younger, going through the mail was fun, but today it's usually a collection of catalogs, direct mail, and a few bills - not much to write home about. :) Even though our mail has changed, I still love those moments when I glimpse a cool-looking mailbox. They make me smile; any moment you smile, there's a chance to ripple...

#32-30 - a weekend of mindful moments #33 of our mindful moments, I referenced the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) and that moment when you feel like you belong. Well, #32, #31, and #30 also connect with PMC and are universally relatable.  I didn't officially sign-up for PMC this year because my cycling calendar was full, but a few curveballs later, I had some free time. The only problem was I missed the registration deadline, but on Thursday, my friend called and said, "We can get you in," and I was hell yeah!   I knew everything was else figureoutable so we made it...

#36 - homemade bread My wife makes the best bread. Ain't no bread machines in our house - she's the machine. That said, if you have a bread machine - no judgment. If you're gluten-free, I'm sorry this mindful moment won't resonate with you in the same way it does for me.  When you think about it, we experience every moment of our lives through our senses, and when she's making bread, life is perfect from the moment you smell the yeast to when the bread's aroma escapes the oven. It's seeing the steam release as you cut your first slice and...

#37 - doing the dishesOne of my first jobs was working at the ice cream parlor/restaurant Friendly's. I made $3.50/hour and got to wear the finest polyester uniform. They had me doing everything: working the grill, scooping ice cream with the requisite Friendly Flair (yes, that's a real thing), and washing the dishes. Long before I knew about mindfulness, doing the dishes, even in a busy restaurant was a peaceful moment and, in many ways, a metaphor for life. Things get messy, but through mindfulness, you can get things clean, but it's wise to slow down so you can notice sharp objects,...
